Random (Men's) Names

Here are some names I've used in my campaigns due to their rough historical authenticity.  A quick scan will reveal some are spelled wrong and that others are anglicized versions of the actual names.  Still, they're close enough for me.

Male (Monotheist) Names (1d30)
1 -- Lothair
2 -- Bohemund
3 -- Tancred
4 -- Baldwin
5 -- Notker
6 -- Einhard
7 -- Willem
8 -- Robert
9 -- Roger
10 -- Richard
11 -- Drogo
12 -- Anselm
13 -- Harold

Male (Pagan) Names 1d30
1 -- Clodivec
2 -- Ludivec
3 -- Randwulf
4 -- Hrothgar
5 -- Werwulf
6 -- Unfirth
7 -- Ragnarr
8 -- Halfdan
9 -- Cnut
10 -- Aleric
11 -- Ulfilas
12 -- Athalric
13 -- Eraric
14 -- Offa
15 -- Raedwald
16 -- Penda
17 -- Aella
18 -- Hildibad
19 -- Harald
20 -- Athaluf
21 -- Sigeric
22 -- Wamba
23 -- Ardo
24 -- Thorismund
25 -- Horsa
26 -- Aethelstan
27 -- Bjorn
28 -- Ivarr
29 -- Guthrum
30 -- Hengst

I'm still working on a list of female names, but it will likely be smaller.  Naming conventions for women in the Middle Ages were, sadly, a bit more boring.  A joking (but somewhat accurate one) is given below.

Female names 1d8
1 -- Anor
2 -- Eleanor
3 -- Constance
4 -- Heloise
5-8 -- Matilda

Obviously this would result in a lot of confusion, but thats for you to figure out.

  1. Here is my quick and easy way to get a Fantasy sounding character name (for NPCs) . . . go to the white pages of your phone book, place finger on any page (randomly)

take first five or six letters of last name (space)
followed by first three letters of first name

    examples . . .

    Charle Mic
    Hilli Lar
    Tompk Deb
    Watso Ali

OR if you dont like these, try rearranging . . .

    Mic Charle
    Lar Hilli
    Deb Tompk
    Ali Watso
